@MarkIf it works your quite lucky. You might have to keep "repeating" the signal at intervals of 2.5m (which might not work ) or look(build) a USB bridge that acts as a USB device.  The  < 5m limit length was designed to allow for reflections to settle at the transmitter before the next bit was sent. Cant you find a way of using an ethernet connection?
