Wireless is great but the speeds indicated are only theoretical. Like for wifi with link speed of 54mbps you get a throughput of 22.5 - 25mbps depending on hardware and the kind of connection. Wireless is only good in cases where cabling is poor or for fast deployments.
because of investment inertia.
If 54Mbps available on some wireless technologies were available then,
no one would have bothered to invest in the cable.

Just the same way if there was a way of transmitting power wirelessly
, or water, it would be the medium of choice.
