High chance your hard drive could be faulty too, sometimes Disk I/O problems can cause freezes. Graphic card? maybe not. If you sure its your graphic card then change your settings to triple buffering or overlap in the openGL panel but like I said i doubt its your graphic card seeing working on mail would not use hardware acceleration.
