A Gathering for Curious Minds

We believe in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately the world.  So we're building here a forum that offers free knowledge from the world's most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other.

TED is a community of people who have just two things in common: they seek a deeper understanding of the world, and they hope to turn that understanding into a better future for us all.  Every so often it makes sense to emerge from the trenches we dig for a living, and ascend to a 30,000-foot view, where we see, to our astonishment, an intricately interconnected whole¹.

Every Saturday we will be showing two 20 minute videos of talks by the world’s most inspired thinkers from the renowned TED conferences (www.TED.com), followed by a casual discussion. 

Saturday 5th September videos feature talks by:

Barry Schwartz who makes a passionate call for "practical wisdom" as an antidote to a society gone mad with bureaucracy. He argues powerfully that rules often fail us, incentives often backfire, and practical, everyday wisdom will help rebuild our world.

   

Alain de Botton who examines our ideas of success and failure -- and questions the assumptions underlying these two judgments. Is success always earned? Is failure? He makes an eloquent, witty case to move beyond snobbery to find true pleasure in our work.
