Larry, welcome back. However I am taken aback by your other 'different reasons' for not being a member of the list. It is true that everyone is going nervous about what they say or do online after wikileaks and continued attacks on government sites across the world. I have seen Moscow autocrats go paranoid and wary of US proprietary technology and acting on recommendations of Kremlin, one Vladimir Putin have signed an executive order that require public institutions to replace all proprietary software, made by US companies like Microsoft, with free Open source software by 2015. The proprietary software are alleged to feature secret back doors that lead directly to Langley and FBI. But yours here may pass as a mere forgetting of the account credentials that you had used to subscribe to the list.
On another note, let us beware of net neutrality-that- freedom to do it your way online, when you tell  guys to directly email you for response, just as it is to media freedom. We have seen it with Jullian Assange taking his own medicine, accusing Guardian of leaking the police investigations report of his Case.

Hey guys,

Am back on the list because I've gathered that a number of my tweets from yesterday were taken out of context even getting my friend PS Ndemo to comment on the original misinformation.

I believe this is the tweet that started it: http://twitter.com/#!/LarryMadowo/status/22902836576657408. A short while later, I followed it up with this: http://twitter.com/#!/LarryMadowo/status/22924904814870528.

If you read the 2 tweets together (or even individually) you can obviously see that I was trying to speak to a hacker or some other online security pro and I couldn't find any on Twitter. I didn't post it on Skunkworks because I am no longer on the list for different reasons. I put it on my Twitter page because a good number of the 3,600+ people who follow me are techies and have always come through for me in the past.

After the second tweet, I did speak to Kahenya Kamunyu, himself a hacker and techie who saw the second tweet and got in touch. The story aired from 1pm on NTV News and is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ayxaRMAsn4

Any casual reading of my tweet clearly indicates that I believed that Kenya indeed has internet security experts. Only that none was available in town and willing to talk to me at that point. I have a lot of respect for Kenyan techies, and there are few Kenyan journalists who cover technology with as much passion and dedication as I do.

I hope that this clears things up nicely. In future, I would appreciate that anybody on this list who has something to say about my tweets (or on-air content for that matter) directly emails me for a response.

Good evening everybody

Guys,

I think Larry is back on the list... we should let him explain, although I think it was barely a mistranslation of his statement.

I gather from this tweet that the interview has already aired?

@iFortknox thanks 4 watching. He's a hacker w/ experience in such things. His role was 2 explain it to the rest of Kenyans w/o tech knowhow

Any chance of an online video?

Okech,

True, the main fault is taking twitter to be the 'end all' in online communication, usually you find people ignoring other forums, lists and networks and focusing only on twitter.  Sometimes it works sometimes it does not.

The reason I put this up here is that when you wake up and say on
twitter (or any social media for that matter) that I cannot get a
security expert to talk to in town, you simply telling the world that
there exists no security expert in town and more so in the country -
Am no security expert but I can personally tell him a thing or two
about security, so insinuating that there is none, yet a forum like
this hosts thousands is right there next to an abuse of the
profession.
