measures, but this is still unnecessary work. Why should James have to
do all this work yet he never subscribed to the group in the first
place?
Such spammers must be dealt with ruthlessly to discourage this
behaviour on the part of group admins to subscribe people against their
will. If they realize their groups will be reported and ultimately
banned this might make them more careful
While I don't intend to protect the group admin, I still think that you
are simply pushing this too far as this is nothing new. We've taken
this journey before, right?
The forum which was the issue then was 'closed' but it reincarnated.
Why don't we just accept that spam is part and parcel of e-mail and
move on? If you've got a way to opt-out, it's easier than crying over
it.
While I totally agree with you in your opinion above, I really
feel for the person who is not a techie like me and who if auto
subscribed would not be able to block such mails. I'm talking of an
average of 20-50 emails a day on topics like politics, tribalism,
advertisements, announcements Sx, tithe, mortgage.... and the list is
endless.. If one did not have a way to go around it, then you'd have to
close your account and create another one.
This is not acceptable and more especially if by any chance is being
perpetuated by people who should be leading the way in making peoples
lifes easier by use of technology.
Hi James,
I am subscribed to that forum (willingly sort of) and from what I see, there is a phone contact at the end of every post. While you may ask why you have to call someone in order to handle a subscription you did not request for, it does make sense that at least the "spammer"() is human and reachable. For the record, I know the guy and he's quite responsive. I cannot defend him against e-mail address harvesting, but I like the group, because it undertakes quite a number of community work, which I do participate in either in person or by contribution.
If you want, I can call him and ask him to unsubscribe your address (which one is it?)
And yes, some posts in that forum are quite irritating, while some are very helpful.
