Assuming I want to get tenders from the Govt, and my Company does not have the Kshs. 5m, yet I have the capability to provide the govt with the materials (as per the tender Document) I'll need to have a certificate of Compliance from KRA. And for one to get the Certificate of Compliance, you must have a VAT Certificate.
Now this is where my logic argument is coming in.

The Public Procurement and Disposal Act, states that a company which wishes to get tenders from the govt, must have a Compliance Certificate.

In my view, unless the said company wants to deal with the private sector, then it does not need to have a VAT Certificate, right?

@ Ann, I'm not very sure about the mandatory requirement for a limited
company to have VAT cert.
But there is a tax called turn-over tax (hope I got the name right)
which is for smaller businesses (with < 5 million annual turnover). I
think the tax is 5% of the turnover and that's the ONLY obligation;
not VAT obligation, nothing else.
I wonder why one would really want to get the VAT cert unless above
the 5m category. Infact that's the requirement unless one insists.
(wish I knew that then); there is so much to VAT and one should very
much aware of that and if not necessary, wait for the business to get
to that category and do with the turn-over tax option as per the
requirement.
