Am not convinced that re-designing the wheel would get you there either. However, there are certainly other areas that would get Kenya on that map if we invested the available resources (time) to them. Examples; 1) Theres no out of the box DNSSEC Key management system only afew open-source solutions for registries. Nothing solid that i have seen/heard of for registrars. 2) AfriNIC has not settled on an RPKI solution. If we helped in development of such solutions, it would go a long way in placing Kenya ahead of the pack in the region. Since this are applications that would be used at a very high level. Ofcourse i cannot end there without mentioning that there are lots of other standards under development at the IETF (www.ietf.org). It would be good to see folks here spending time to engage on the development of the future of the Internet development if theres such interest to being at the cutting edge. Regards, Michuki.
