Hi Joram, if it a day to day car use, Nope I would rather not buy any of those cars, yes I would buy a land rover as a collection, but not to drive it as Aki put it, its not even safe. Even the prince in UAE with a whole collection of rare cars does not take a drive in any of them, he has a museum actually most guys who collect cars do not drive them per se but show them off to friends etc while parked....
And mate to compare the safety of today's car with a Land rover of them days ... come on how would you say a car is safe coz its made of steel, you probably wont die coz it wont be moving that fast .... I know for a fact most EU cars get really tested so would be safer ... but again ...
Peugeot actually had spare parts for 504s discontinued quite recently, with the kenyan govt and marshals being one of its key clients. So ive seen a few whos parts are not as bad as you think. Plus value is in the eye of the beholder....maybe i get a kick out of bumpy rides with sores afterwards despite guzzling ability(ask any impreza owner if they mind the guzzling) ????Some vehicles have a cult following hence their value appreciation despite rusting and having no comforts of todays cars(airbags,ABS,power steering and windows , all overated in my opinion :-) and in some cases more dangerous(have you had a power-everything car go off when you are moving?Brakes, steering and everything else electric shut down!) Plus being recent is no way a sign of better safety(ask toyota and check out the aluminium body cars of today that dont survice crashes as compared to the old cars that were made of steel)

A big IMHO : :-))@Joram, peugeot 504 going for 400k? What is this value based on ? Is it not a scrap heap with rust, rattled door columns, not safe nor does it have crumple zones for accident impact nor have side impact safety, nor have the latest in safety belt technology and not fuel effecient too. The owner taking care of a car has nothing much to do with depreciation value, try to get a loan for this old car. The banks will refuse it to finance it because the value has been wriiten off to an extent. On the SWB landrover, this could be another over rated junk. Fuel guzzler if carb/efi V8( if not Diesel TDI 2.5 etc ), bumpy, requires frequent repairs, you do not know the condition of the diffs, gearbox or transfer boxes. The seats are small, quite un-comfortable and hit an offroad bump and cause you back some pains because the torsion arm suspension throws the body around. And someone owning such a car will have pushed it to limits including driving offroad and chasing the zebras, so you can be sure that the chasis will feel different. Safety = nothing, not even equipped with ABS for that emergency stop.Pls say why you'd want to buy a SWB landrover @ 1.1million? It does not even come with power steering, right? As I mentioned, the collector items as a seperate enitity :-)On Wed, Mar 17, 2010 at 10:09 AM, Joram Mwinamo <joram.mwinamo@gmail.com> wrote:
It depends on how well the owner took care of it and whether its a rare model. A pal has a 20 something year old rare Volvo and has been getting offers of 300- 400k the car doesnt even move!I wouldnt mind paying 150 - 200k for a model that i really want some go towards the 1.1m range like landrovers (especially defender short chassis) hardly depreciate(to the detriment of those of us looking for them). Ive seen a good peugeot 504 going for 400k

Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us.There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.As we let our own light shine, we consciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
