Actually @Imelda, you are right, it depends on where you work... everything in this world depends on another thing, doesn't it? A grad will see this as an opportunity to gain experience (it could be a good experience or a bad experience). No argument there. We all need to live, eat n play. Yeah the salary covers that... these are young minds, the brains behind the future innovation of Kenya. This is not just a Kenya problem... Imelda I get lots of college students emailing me to pay me to do their C++ and Assembly assignments for them. Seriously!!! These are simple problems. What happens when these guys hit reality claiming they know C++ or assembly and they charged to build critical systems. Then what? Yet their papers show they got al A's. It happens here a lots where programmers are hired to do a job and are let go coz they just cant hack it. Based on this Ad there is no experience that will be gained here unless the applicant takes up side projects. Here's why...

Doing C++ project on linux, the guy needs to be competent with stuff like Make configurations, Linkers, compiler optimizations, Data structures, threading, memory, probably CPU optimizations 32/64bit, address spaces, The list goes on and on... someone with all that already has the experience and would not make sense doing this job to gain experience. In short i can guarantee you that the applicants will never write a single line of code in C++. they sould have asked for python or some other script.

The problem is here employers don't value the work techies do. Simple and clear. That's not the worst part. The wost is that we techies have been infected too and have lost value and pride in ourselves and in our work.

There will always be people desperate enough to take those jobs. That is what many employers count on.
