My advice, start ; shoot something this weekend, post it on you tube. Interview yourself if you have to.
All you need is a he camera and a tripod. Later you can worry about other things.
This is advice from someone that went to a lot of trouble planning and even bought kit for my idea.
Just start. Do something for this idea this week. Maybe not too fancy but start the show

I dont know how I missed out on this but I like the idea. I have been toying around with similar thoughts but mine were just for Open Source. I will look for a way to share the GoOpen content that was done in SA some time back for inspiration. This was a 13 episode Tech show highlighting open source software. I am sure it can also work for the rest of tech.
I will also be happy to participate actively in planning anything and getting things going. Is Saturday afternoon a good time to meet?

@ the PM. From what i am gathering the strategy should be.
1. We broadcast ourselves 'YouTube' 2. Get advise on how to package the program. We can consult Larry Madowo and m sure once in while he can be airing our clips on his program #theTrend. if they will catch viewers attention.
Think Big start Small.
Let me know how soon we can meet.

Hi,
My opinion is that if people are interested they start as low as they possibly can. You only need a decent camera, I have one that can take shots at 14 mega-pixel and can do a decent job. The person who suggested the Youtube channel had a brilliant concept since we do not have funds to sink into the project. We do that as we wait for things to improve once the show catches on.
The problem I am seeing right now is that individuals may have already started commercializing the idea even before the first step has been taken. I could be wrong (once again) but if this is done, could be a direct route to failure.
Let those who want to assist meet sooner rather than later, face time is quite important early on. Let people do mediocre work as they find themselves. I am sure things will get better.
Martin.

I definitely like the excitement that this thread has elicited and the turn its taking. I've got a few pointers though.
In 2010, i had this idea and i thought it was time to get our tech out there, i even made a prototype for it and approached several media houses selling the idea to them. The reality however was different, the show was to either come in 13 or 25 episodes and i had to buy the slot for all these shows (which was about 350k per 25mins then), this is where it was even harder because i had to get a sponsor to the show to buy those slots for me to air. Considering that there's the cost of production also to be footed by the the sponsor and for me to get my bread out of it, it meant i had to allocate a lot of airtime to the sponsor to an extent that the show would not look independent rather it would be free airtime for the sponsor. And how many sponsors do we know who have such deep pockets and would be interested in tech shows? That drew a thin line between the show's motive and the ownership.
To cut the long story short, i still have my demo with me as it didn't make any sense to have a show that would feature anything that deemed to not be inline with the sponsors interest. That then explain why the major tech shows, BBC Click and CNBC's Tech@Work are initiatives of the media house themselves as the overheads are seen as any other operational cost. With that said, i think a youtube channel would do for starts, PM can start a project on www.asana.com and we hope that with the mobile penetration and a bit of campaign we can drive viewership from all corners of Kenya and beyond. We still need some sponsor of some sort since a quality camera don't come cheap, at about 50-70k or so per day would afford you services from someone who's worth their name in that field. Bwana PM, i suggest we start small, look around get some more ideas, get right combination in the team and take on the open seas of opportunities.
My best wishes.

Dear All,
I am glad this has been taken with overwhelming enthusiasm. Lets keep the fire burning.
@Calvin Thank you for taking up the PM role. I am currently based in SA hence I couldnt handle that role. In the meanwhile I ll be happy to chip in trendy ideas that i believe have worked done here. Definitely this will be a success if packaged well
Apparently internet access penetration in Kenya is higher than SA. How about that!! When I introduced this topic up i knew that we are a power house and can definitely pull it off.
There is a similar show down here that has been a success story. We could borrow a leaf or two
Watch some of the episodes here
