Let me give out the source of my problem.

I restored the laptop to the previous correctly configured system and it worked out well.

Then I wanted to see the games installed ( I got it from my mum) and there was one which I think is the source of boot volume failure. After playing the game, I shut down the laptop and retired for the night.

The following morning on powering it up, it gave me the options for restoring the computer using the recommended settings, on booting up. However, that failed. I also tried safe mode, debugging and all sorts of restoring you can think, but it failed.

The message I get on restarting is "Unmountable Boot Volume"..


I wonder if by having CD with the windows image, I could get sorted out.


With the foregoing, I may have to contact Eric.
Give me the location of your office/ base so as to make plans as I'll be in West Pokot next week.

I suspect it may be worse than a broken filesystem. The fact that it don't even see the device as mountable mean he has mangled the first 63 or 126 sectors depending on whether the device is using 512 or 1024 sector size‎ or worse it's a hardware problem 

If it's the later, every time he try to use the drive, he make it worse. Better to dd the content to another drive and try the fix there.
