You say you are running Bitdefender and Kaspersky. That is a terrible idea because both anti-viruses will recursively check on what each other is doing, happily gobbling up memory. Pick one.
As to finding out what is running the following tools
- Autoruns (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx) - Tells you what runs at start up
- ProcessExplorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx) - Tells you what is currently running
I'm using a machine that when booted, uses over 50% of the memory (way
beyond the physical memory, majority of it is from the paging file-for
nothing!). It then gets painfully slow... With just a browser, usage
shoots to over 80%!
A laptop on the same network behaves the same. The funny thing is that
this memory is not accounted for (on the processes), and using other
tools that show processes including hidden ones doesn't show either.
There's Bitdeffender running, (laptop has kaspersky) and they are
automatically updated. Both are on XP.
Anyone familiar with this? Please help.
