The selecting worked, thanks! The contract option didn't give me what I needed but I was able to cut it out by deleting the outline from the layers I needed the cut-out to be on. Thanks Ben. Thanks for your tips but first, holding the Ctrl key and clicking on the layer didn't select the shape. Secondly, Modify is disabled when I do this.
