Okay. I am not doing anything that touches on National Security in a negative way, even.
I believe Collins has just given this thread a new life, even before I got any meaningful response:-)
@Wash Trust me even with FrontlineSMS having HTTPS, if it is a matter of national security, things will happen and the only foot print you will ever find is :) or :-) if there is any sympathy left.

LOL.
I don't mean to demean you at all Collins (me and you know each other so
well), but what you just said almost made me fall from my chair - laughter!!
Yaani, what happened exactly, leading to you getting caught up?
Someone logged into your system?? Ok you did not secure the system or what?
Deleted DNS entries for your domain? You mean the guy deleted
/etc/resolv.conf or /etc/hosts or your named.conf?
Anyway, my question is about using FrontlineSMS with HTTPS. Did you ever
try that? I guess that's a long shot...

Yeah @wash, thats the kind of thing that mention of Ushahidi reminds me
of.. But lemme paint the picture...
I decide, mmmh, this OLN thing will at some point need re-looking and
analysis, so I decide to set up a timeline picking tweets from the good
major, and newsfeeds from goodle with certain keywords (KDF, Al shabaab,
Somalia) etc etc.. and map them against a timeline. For the short perios I
did it, it showed some interesting trends, including how the attacks
progressed, and how reported al shabaab activity was happening.
Then someone in a certain military forum i actively visit mentioned to
me... "Boss, that will compromise Op Sec", and kindly asked me to remove
it... Obviously, i took him as a paranoid security freak and never paid
attention to his "request", then one day, My google analytics just dropped.
I checked my site.www.xxx.mydomain.com, it was nowhere... !
I logged into my server, my apache settings were intact, the directory and
files, and the db were all there... so I decided, lemme check the logs and
flush out this b@$tard... , i read through each line , filtered out the ip
addresses i jua, and those for google and search engines ... nothing..
login, just me and my address.
then on checking my dns config, the file had been edited and the only thing
the guy left was a comment // :-)
then the guy was suddennly very friendly in the forums...
I asked my hosts (rackspace)... nothing, they did not even have access to
my vps Operating system...
Thats when i knew... Hata Internet Ina wenyewe...
