AWS is far more flexible and it's a proper cloud with about 25 products.  Digital Ocean just does virtual private servers.

Digital Ocean is not made for high availability or robust solutions - just for websites, mobile app backends, etc...

Digital Ocean is cheaper.  The cheapest Amazon instance is about $15/month and not as robust.  However Amazon offers a free tier for the first year ...
