Economies of scale? KENIC? To tell you the truth I don't know. But I have always assumed in countries where the up take of the local TLD is high, the costs will tend to come down. In Kenya, registration of .ke domains seems to have stagnated, as many just opt for the cheaper .com domains available from registrars based in the US.
