I disagree with you, and what David said. There were plenty of social networking sites before Facebook e.g. MySpace. Facebook found a way to innovate features that would keep
  1. People coming back
  2. Spreading
That is the ticket. Innovation. You can't just re-package facebook and expect similar success.

If users don't come back to your site the problem is not the users! It's the site.
