"The lowest bidder quoted a price of Sh32 billion against an anticipated budget of Sh12 billion, creating a deficit of Sh20 billion,” said Mr Kaimenyi
20B is the deficit.
Anyway, here is the breakdown of the bidders:
HP Commercial (lowest bidder) - Sh32 billion
Chinese company Huawei PTE Ltd (highest bidder) - Sh60.5 billion.
Samsung Electronics - Sh39.1 billion
Symphony Technologies - Sh38 billion
Haier Technologies - Sh34 billion
ZTE Corporation - Sh33 billion
Telcom Kenya - Sh32 billion
And yes, it's Telcom Kenya, not Telkom Kenya. I hear there is a difference
I'm thinking, since these 2 Kenyan companies must be subcontracting, unless we have started building the laptops, why not go directly to their subcontractors? Either way, this money was going outside. And don't tell me about investing in local companies. That'd be bull in this scenario
