While it might make you sleep easier tracking software in most cases is no help at all since the first thing thieves do is format the comp. If it works at firmware level its better but still not impossible to beat.
Imho use disk encryption software to prevent your data falling into the wrong hands, get insurance to replace it, and first, last and most important BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!
