There are many possibilities available... some at pretty decent cost... but each site requires a study to ascertain the right technology solution. The solution has to meet the need. With that said, satellite is the only option in some areas although the best opinion is the cheapest for the greatest amount of bandwidth at the highest speed.

In this case, I suspect we many have to use satellite with solar and Wifi instead of WiMax. But site specific details are required. ;)

 Simon  could be right ...

I would use Simon's  WiMax .. First install masts all the way to Turkana ...  no wait .. First get power lines to Turkana (600km) so that they can be used to power the repeater base stations and the wimax active devices .. Employ jammaz to take care of the stations.. and equipment .. and voila .. there you have it...

Why get obsolete vsat of about USD 8,000 when one can easily get a WiMax solution with about 1 million USD

.. ... ama aje Simon ? ..its a no brainer ..
