@Peter.. I meant mainly in terms of aesthetics and speed of loading...I have personally experienced a site working well in two browsers say chrome and IE then it misbehaves on firefox.

All the same, if you intend to have your site working *seamlessly* on all browsers, you really have to test on several browsers. Now, since we can't test ALL browsers in use, a better way is to test only the popular browsers. Once your site plays nice with Chrome, Firefox, IE (shudder!) and Safari, you may rest easy.
