Discussing 'tools for trade' in Law enforcement agencies is like chewing gum (we can go on and on) - we can put down every single piece of observation we've made from CSI to Spooks, but we may never know. It would be more productive as techies to instead discuss Forensic Tools e.g The farmer's boot CD, Helix, Dc3dd or even Nessus - and avoid arousing unnecessary curiosity, let those civil servants, as corrupt and helpless as they may be - do their job. JUST my 2 cents.
