That's unbelievably harsh, if not a little skewed in thought.

I see nothing wrong in someone making software for their own particular use, then sharing it with others, or even making some profit while at it.

I do like your high expectations, though.

One should never make software for the sake of coding. You should have a target market/audience else you will end up giving it out as freeware.

Adobe is a giant! One developer cannot make software good enough to rival any of their products. I think Paul Chacha should have gone the Red Giant Software way. Red Giant Software saw that Adobe after effects' particale playground had some short comings and decided to make a add-on(not complete application) called trap code particular. The addon become so popular that adobe had to adopt it for their CS4 release, which translated to MEGA profits for them.
