Mkahawa - mkahawa.sourceforge.net - is quite popular in the Linux/Ubuntu cafes. Check out: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mkahawa/files/stats/timeline?dates=2011-01-0... 44% of those downloads are from KE. The graph shows that its popularity spiked when M$ + Kenya Copyright Board threatened the cybers with closure for using unlicensed software - back in Nov, 2011. I think it's more popular than other free Cyber softwares because it's localized - capturing the Kenyan cyber user experience. It has very low demands on CPU & RAM, so runs smoothly on the old computers that comprise a majority in Kenya's internet cafes. It also has lots of support in user forums http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1295156 complete with a youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYT9L5NOTzk It's multi-platform nature allows cybers to retain a some Windows machines even as they migrate. --- On Mon, 3/5/12, Denis Gikunda <dgikunda@google.com> wrote: From: Denis Gikunda <dgikunda@google.com> Subject: [Skunkworks] Cyber cafe software in KE To: "skunkworks" <skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> Date: Monday, March 5, 2012, 3:21 AM Hi folks, For those of you in the know - what are the 3 most popular cyber cafe management/billing software in Nairobi? popular = reach/# of internet cafes. And why are they popular (besides being free)? Also, there used to be a cyber cafe association way back in the day. Are they still operational? couldn't find them online..
