Well said Steve! Did not start off with pay either. Used to tarmac from sales meetings often (after using my own ma3fare to get there). Would often be drenched in sweat - for no pay! When better sales people came in later they got cars to go out. Did not complain. Was amazed to learn / see how they closed corporate deals as I took care of the technical stuff / explanations for them. It builds / shows character if not passion to start off without pay. Do not follow the money, follow your passion. Money will follow sooner or later. Few employers are dim enough to ignore a good worker. Even if they cannot pay you well, good ones become your referees or mentors who build you up. On Thu, Aug 20, 2009 at 1:07 PM, ndungu stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com>wrote:
A long time ago - I was lucky to read a book called "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" - in my last year of college about 3 years ago.
And there was a quote that said - "do not pass up a chance to learn and gain experience for the pursuit of money..."
It went on to say that, while you are still young and learning - it is okay to be employed for a while without pay, because 1) you are still finding out what you have to offer 2) you are building what you have to offer - so that when the time comes, you will have alot to tell your next employer, who shall value you based on your now bigger CV...
My first two and a half jobs [almost 1 year] - I must say I worked without pay,, its hard, but you get to catch on alot.
I am not critisizing, but I always advise guys from college to start somewhere, because times have changed, and this is the only way to penetrate the market - unless you get very lucky [no pun intended for this last statement :-) ] .
