The current network manager detects it both on ubuntu 10.4 and fedora 13, at least my zte ac8710 do, I did not require any drivers.

I am not getting the auto CDMA in my NetworkManager if that is what you mean techie. I do have one there from my earlier Bambanet usage, so that one had more luck...

I am not sure what to do with the EVDO networking link techie sent, the paths used don't seem to exist on my box, maybe other packages missing?! I have a feeling that this site comes closest, though it just doesn't do it for me: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1090119. Though failing to get a carrier connection still, I guess I will stick with SFC on my Ubuntu box for now. Thanks again to everyone who have chipped in..

Can you confirm you are using the EC226 USB Modem CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev.A? I presume you are using 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope (not 9.4). 

I had the modem working under 9.04 (at least once), but can't get it to work under Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala which seems a bit strange. 

Dan, to confirm, I don't login (under Windows and Mac) with something@orange.co.ke but with 02020049xx number and 4 digit PIN. Not sure when you require the email combo to be honest.
