Good people,

While the intention of starting this thread was not necessarily to character assassinate but to address solutions that will make us reclaim our past glory.

While we are placed on the Alert Level, I think that should be a starting point - to show us wee are somewhere, though not a better place.

The gap between the rich and the poor keeps on growing daily. This is because the economy seems to be favouring the rich while the rich remain watu wa mkono, and  at the end of the day, the rich will say we finally did it.

If Kenya's government has lost legitimacy and sense in the provision of social services, then we are the ones who are squarely to blame. Let me go back to 2002. We had hope, dreams, vision and aspirations for Kenya, but a few months later, squabbling and blame game started. It then reminded me of post-independent African governments. They quickly accepted independence, the systems of the colonialists, and tried to Africanize some sectors. It worked in some nations, but the majority of Africa, is still deeply rooted in the colonialist systems.

After 2007 there was little that Kenyan could pride themselves with/ in. When one talks about corruption in Africa, Kenya is top three, poor governance, we are one of the leading in the continent, and the list goes on and on.

If we look at the declarations made by the Post-independent governments - Water for All by 2000, Health for All by... Education for All by..., they all end up at one place, 'there were no funds to sustain them' yet our Waheshimiwa have increased there salries exponentially!

Now the so-called Second Liberation government, has performed much worse than the previous governments. A bloated cabinet, a president who disagrees with his cabinet in public, a president who calls his driver mjinga at a public rally.... and now the New Kid on the Block, Vision 2030, a plethora of headache (Constitutional Review). We are really far!

Someone on this thread has pointed out that If the systems are put in place, then things will go as planned and I agree in totality. There are some communities which believe that leadership belongs to them, but with such a mentality, things will continue going bad. There is also no need to worship individuals, whether the president or any other politician, as some people have been doing.

The militias causing terror in Kenya are the making of politicians. One thing I admire about the US Govt is their policy of not negotiating with terrorists. Here we've heard Kenyan politicians offering an Olive Branch to the militias, in the name of peace making, yet they very well know that the militia's are their making.

While watching The Tears of the Sun, one thing that dwaned to me, is Africans leaders are driven by greed and personal ambition, while the masses are left to suffer at the mercy of the God.Ethnic hatred flares once peaceful communities into wars and hatred. (BTW in the movie there is one IDA ONYANGO as a cast ). If you've read Ken Saro-Wiwa's Africa Kills Her Sun the story is the same.

So how do we make the change?

Voting out the leaders in a choice, but not an option. Citizen journalism in Iran, has shown how this tool can pressurize the governments into yielding to the demands of the people. Despite the challenges from the Ayatollah, the Iranians demanded their own legitimacy - though it is unlikely for a re-run, but they drove their points home.
If we go the Honduras way, we might lose our credibility in the International Face and the Al-Shabab will take control of Kenya's North Eastern Province ( We cannot afford that, can we?)

Secondly, the youth (and I'm one of them) have been talking of neglect, so can we prove to the Old Guards, we can deliver? So is willing to take the mantle of Kenya's leadership come 2012? Anybody below 40 whether male or female, a Njemp or a Turkana, Maa Speaker etc? Then this is the time. Sell yourself well and I'll stand behind you!
Otherwise the political leadership will want to use this opportunity to show, how the youth are hot-blooded and foolish!

My thoughts!

The intention of Kibaki is to use people like u to have himself and
others blamed equally. The truth is that Kibaki and his hardliners are
the ones to blame and the more he makes us think that him and Raila
command the army in the same way or control the finance in the same
way or rule in the same way is a farce.

The real killer and fraud in Kenya is Kibaki. The "Kibaki and Raila
has failed" propaganda comes from Kibaki. He uses people like Karua to
think that Karua is pro reform. Kibaki is the killer of the Kenyan
dream
