What are the implications of shutting down the mailing list? Putting a lot of time into setting up a new site without users makes little sense (and if nothing drastic is done ppl will probably stick to the list considering there already is a forum) If the forum/wp site would support all the features of the mailing list it may be easier to get an acceptance of shutting down the list. So maybe it is better to start at the other end: What features of the mailing list must be supported also by the forum? "someone that recieves this email forwards it to someone
who forwards it to someone untill something gets done" means that one requirement is that all posts should be available via email if required if I interpret it correctly.
It would be nice to be able to post via email as well like http://posterous.com/ Maybe we should just have a vote before talking about colours so that there is an acceptance for it? Democratic, anonymous and good in every way. http://skunkworks.limequery.com/13528/lang-en On 07/27/2010 02:55 PM, [ Brainiac ] wrote:
trust me @jonas, its not as straightforward. Shutting off the mailing list is not a very clever idea, but then again, who said shock therapy does not work.
Buck to my argument @aki on the listeners: i have noticed for instance that the moment i have any ranting about KDN esp on the poor quality of their services, i get almost instant responses from the powers that be when i post this to the mailing list, this is because someone that recieves this email forwards it to someone who forwards it to someone untill something gets done. No amount of stackpoverflow type thing can handle this.
and while were at it, i did this last year and got lots of mixed responses, i redid it about a month ago and proposed it to some guys as the possible future of skunkworks. Id love to hear your comments:

I think it needs to be a clean cut as being on the mailing list AND having to check the forum will not work. Maybe just shut down the mailing list at a given point and add an auto-reply with a link to the forum?
I am almost sure phpBB has a function to email all new posts for those who prefer to just read emails. It would require signing up but so it did to get on the list.
