had the same issue on an imac...after upgrade failed but restored to factory osx.<br>try reinstaling previous os but if its under warranty should be covered if its a hardware issue but for spares takes 3 to 4wks or even more depending on where u purchased it.<br>

@Mark,<br><br>That is covered by warranty.<br><br>I don&#39;t think installing any software on the Mac voids your warranty so bootcamp, Unix, etc on the Mac should be perfectly legal.<br>I believe warranty is usually on hardware. Software can be reinstalled.<br>

<p>My macbook hard drive is failing s.m.a.r.t with no prior problems. I recently upgraded from 10.7.5 to 10.8.2 but I doubt that could be the cause.  It started with osx refusing to boot and soon it could only open recovery. </p>




<p>The machine is only about 8 months old and this is highly unusual no? I have windows on a bootcamp partition but should this be an issue? </p>
<p>This should be covered by warranty shouldn&#39;t it? </p>
