I tool a tiny tool called undbx. I wanted a small [and free] app so that I could push it to Nakuru over my 256 kbps link. This tool doesn't repair dbx files but retrieves eml files from them. The DBX file is over 1 GB in size and besides, I'm not a fan of OE. I'd rather someone use MS Outlook because even if I had repaired the DBX, the user - I believe - would have still ran into problems once the dbx reached 2gig

One thing amazes me on what you did. You extracted eml files from a damaged dbx store. Although OE is quite obsolete from my vocabulary, I wonder how you did this and how much you lost in the process. It's just not clear to me that "it's a damaged dbx". Why did you not just repair?

In MDaemon, you store the files in C:\MDaemon\Users\$domain\$username\ - you just drop the files in this folder.
Then you configure Outlook to POP from 127.0.0.1 or the IP you have binded MDaemon to (binded is not grammatically correct, but is technically correct). I should say the IP MDaemon is listening on, sio?

But unfortunately, the PC is in Nakuru (I'm working on it using VNC) and my mail server is in Nairobi. Pushing all those files [over 1 GB] to Nairobi for download to Nakuru again is just not my cup of tea. Maybe I can try running a simple mail server on that PC.... lemmi see...

Is a file of the type .eml a mail file? I mean, if you rename the extension from .eml to .txt, can you open it in notepad and read it?

What is EML?

EML, which stands for ‘E-mail’, is the file extension of the Outlook Express Saved Mail Messages files. It belongs to the Microsoft range of e-mail management programs and is used for saving e-mails for storage and forwarding purposes.

My next qeustion is: Are the filenames unique? If you have them all in one directory, then the names are definately unique.

If you have the time, and you have a Unix-based OS (or do I just tell you "Linux"?) running somewhere, you could install a POP3 server on it and move all these files (by,say, ftp) into your account in the Linux. You simply configure the POP3 server to serve files from ~/Maildir. Place all the files in ~/Maildir/new/ and configure Outlook to connect to the POP3 server, authenticating as yourself, and voila! You'll fetch all the mail files into Outlook's Inbox, then move them to wherever you want.
