@Joram, I think we need to seperate cult following ( I'm one of them ) to what one should be paying for junk. I've never drien a car that completely went dead because I probably change to a new battery when purchasing a car. To fully understand when a seller says the car is well maintained is another story. I have owned many cars over the years from performance to a classic 1968 plymouth ( I only paid 40k for this car, then built it up myself ) which was bought by a german fellow back in 89. However, are cars which are considered to be scrap worth anything? I think we need to ask a finance person on this list. They can shed more light.

BTW, I drive a pajero 96 SWB ( similar to a montero ) and I did pay the rates for a junk because I wanted this particular car. Was it well maintained, according to the owner, yes. However, for me the owner knew nothing much about cars and maintainence. :-)

Peugeot actually had spare parts for 504s discontinued quite recently, with the kenyan govt and marshals being one of its key clients. So ive seen a few whos parts are not as bad as you think. Plus value is in the eye of the beholder....maybe i get a kick out of bumpy rides with sores afterwards despite guzzling ability(ask any impreza owner if they mind the guzzling) ????

Some vehicles have a cult following hence their value appreciation despite rusting and having no comforts of todays cars(airbags,ABS,power steering and windows , all overated in my opinion :-) and in some cases more dangerous(have you had a power-everything car go off when you are moving?Brakes, steering and everything else electric shut down!) Plus being recent is no way a sign of better safety(ask toyota and check out the aluminium body cars of today that dont survice crashes as compared to the old cars that were made of steel)
