Hallo Kago, Bumped into this when looking at old emails. You may need to take VPS (virtual private server) Linux hosting and configure openvpn to interface with Safaricom's VPN infrastructure. Which can be slightly painful, if you know little about VPNs. One wonders why Safcom doesn't simply use HTTPS. Cheers! ________________________________ From: Kago Kagichiri <thekenyanprince@gmail.com> To: Skunkworks Forum <skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> Sent: Friday, September 21, 2012 4:32 PM Subject: [Skunkworks] SSH to VPN - Connect to VPN from web hosting Hi all, An app (MPrep) hosted in the US on a Bluehost.com Linux box with CPanel and access to SSH, would like to connect to Safaricom VPN, with my app (web-hosting box) acting as the VPN client. I have a public IP and an SSL certificate and the ability to execute SSH commands and open custom network ports to push and pull data. I am not a Linux expert but if pointed in the write direction I'll succeed. I would like to know more about the technicalities involved, specifically: 1. Is it possible to connect to a VPN from SSH on the hosting side? 2. If possible: How does one execute a HTTP connection via the tunnel? 3. If not possible: What are alternative options, other than moving to the Safaricom cloud? Kago Kagichiri. -- K.
