A question for you : Recently in traffic my car's side view mirrors were stolen right before my eyes while I was in the car. Though I was very angry at the youth, If I had a gun, should I have used it?

I see your reasoning. If i was in that situation and had a gun, i would have been very tempted to use it but doing so would have been unreasonable.
A different perspective; I think you can be accused of impunity for letting that youth get away with that crime, similar to a sin of omission.
