- Founder Tim Berners Lee, while working at the physics dept CERN, switzerland ( 1989 ). The Web Server was called CERN, only worked on Unix OS called NextStep and at CERN itself. In 1991, met Richard Stallman of FSF at presentation in CERN, who told him the prospects of volunteers could develop his work further....

 

The WebServer and concept not born from Open Source or Freedom software.
