@Alex,
The new tariff is good, my reasons:-
1) More affordable tariffs (note NOT offers) from any service provider
are most welcome.
Offers are gratuitous thus consumers are disadvantaged when demanding
rights arising from 'generous' offerings from providers.
2) Once tariff is published, provider is deemed to enter into a
contract with the consumers they cannot unilaterally revoke.
3) It simply depends on the information available to the
consumer(buyer) before (s)he enters into the communication contract.
Since the rates will be broadcast beforehand, it is my considered
opinion that with full disclosure beforehand the principle of 'willing
buyer, willing seller' will apply transparently.
4) I find this tariff mutually beneficial to consumers and operators.
It optimises use of existing infrastructure and advances “equitable”
principle that we hold dear within Civil Society circles. 'Unequal
treatment of unequals' – in this case rural and urban communication
tariffs and a positive voluntary step towards Universal Access.
But what would Safaricom be considering for urban poor, high-density
areas, for example, for my friends at Korogocho and Kibera???
Regards,
Alex
