I believe the IT guys in govt need to be educated first before throwing massive technology at them. If they are ignorant, then I believe they cant do anything even if they are given google's servers. Oh yes. My point is this: With that kind of regulation, then destroying a piece of hardware is useless as the backup requirement is there. If you have not kept a good backup history then we sue you for that. The penalties should be heavy. This brings up the issue of the data protection Bill which we keep asking about.

It is expected that such kind of plan would include backups that can be recoverable and that go back in time for several years. So here its just a matter of demanding for the backed up data and suing the senior management or Directors if that data is not available.

I believe we all have tools that can be used to recover data from such devices. But lets see if they can do so from damaged e.g. by fire storage devices
