Kris,

Initially ISPs who had infrastructure were not willing to share/sell as dark fiber (sell a pair to a competitor) which resulted to each digging up, some dug up because of their own fiber design (to have a ring topology) that could not be covered by existing infrastructure while others due to being cheaper to dig up that lease the fiber from competitor.

We also do not have a policy where an infrastructure provider plays as an infrastructure provider and service providers run on their networks. Scenario is once the infrastructure provider lands the fiber (which you have paid for installation costs) they go ahead and offer your customer reduced prices.

It would be better if we had the following:
1. Infrastructure Providers for GSM/3G services
2. Infrastructure providers for data infrastructure/Data Center Services
3. Infrastructure providers for FM/TV/DVB-T
4. Service Providers for GSM/3G
5. Service Providers for Data/Internet
6. Content Providers - Radio, TV, Data, etc
6. City council to do all civil works (trenching & ducting) to major centers

The main challenge is the terrestrial links that serve you are more costly compared with the cost of undersea capacity. Also, we have not activated all the Terabits of capacity maybe not even 50Gbps!

My 2 cent.

Just to hijack the tread and add on to some of the sentiments above. For those in the know maybe you could highlight or explain why companies (isps) have to lay there own fibre why not just lay one and then get a way of sharing it. Scenario is if customer x is not happy to Vila they just call company z to provide service no laying of new cables nothing just a change somewhere. As was said elsewhere why do they have to duplicate the same service.

Would it have been better if the ISPs leased the fiber network from a county company that was only tasked with keeping the cable in working order. The pros I think out weigh the cons just a thought

Skunk

I got the accesskenya acess@home broadband service ( most misused word by kneyna isps) I subscribed for the elite package that is supposed to give me IMb in the evenings and weekends.

I was dissatisifed with the speeds as it was much slower than my orange modem ( downlaoding a 40 MB file would take about 6 hours) and I cannot  barely stream an SD youtube video.

To make matters worse I have been offline for the last few days making calls to their customer service till Im really frustrated.

Wasnt access supposed to be the best service. Shoudnt 1mb be able to stream even youtube HD.

Is there an alternate ISP I can subscribe to ( No zuku in buruburu) -

Thx
Kevin
