Never tried screen mirroring. It does act like it's dead if there's no active internet, however if you've installed an alternate home app then you can still launch kodi and watch stuff off your local network. I've gone through so many devices (WDTV, AppleTV, Chromecast, Cheap Chinese Stbs etc), and so far the Fire Tv rules. Regards, John K. In addition, also look at the Amazon Fire Line up. The smaller fire tv stick is almost the same price as a chromecast. The bigger 2015 fire tv (~$90) supports resolutions up to 4k, I've tested it and confirmed on Netflix & Amazon you get true 4k video.
