I've been reading The Facebook Effect, and a few things stand out:
- No quick cash mentality. Money was not their primary motivation. Zuckerberg wanted 'a more open society'. Probably still isn't. If it was, they would have sold out ages ago.
- They worked really really hard.
- Having the 'conditions' right and taking advantage of them. Time, Network, Market, Skills etc
- Learning from the mistakes of others - apparently friendster.com was such a hit initially that its servers ground to a halt...

I agree with Joram we need to create value. e.g a product not just a program (or website)

@Joram, I am looking that the list of things i pay 500 or more for per month and all of them seem like necessities, rent, water, stima, fare/fuel.

but then i guess thats where innovation comes in, some brilliant techie makes that awesome 'thing' which i gotta keep paying for over and over again, something i cant do without...

I totally disagree with the initial hypothesis of this thread

You can even microtarget in kenya, nairobi and dare I say even buru buru alone. If you have an app that targets 1000 subscribers who pay you 500 bob a month , how much is that?

Dont bother going east africa if you havent even conquered your backyard. Kenyans are just too lazy to create value, people want quick riches hence the corruption movement.

Jay Bhalla (lurking on the list) created the site... It's one of the purposes in the longer term... I'm guessing we can add a feature for supplier tracking...

There is http://www.startupindex.co.ke/ where we were invited to register our start-up business and which I personally did. I did not know what the real agenda for the site was, but if possible such a site can be expanded to include rating of the registered businesses as far as customer satisfaction is concerned.

My thoughts.

Very well said Phares. I'm sure this group has enough of us looking forward to this kind of portal - the standards will definately save people money and make the market style up.

Why don't you start this as an initiative. I've seen campaigns against malpractices - but this one will hit the necessary spots.

Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us.There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.As we let our own light shine, we consciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
