One thing people don't get is GNU/linux is a open source community OS.Windows is a commercial OS that you have to buy and to learn most of the stuff you have to get into their certification(costly). So certification is just a paper when it comes to GNU/linux, some companies like redhat are trying to commercialize that .But you have to think back and understand why the GNU/linux was made in the first place, to be free from not only cost but also freedom to use and modify as you want. Most of the guys who develop these distributions may not have unix/linux certification because it does not meet up with the fast advances and improvements that are emerging everyday. My advice(the way i got to love linux) to learn linux is start from scratch.Go to Linux from scratch, follow the documentation and you will be very savvy with GNU/linux.
