For any standard to be 4G it should be able to do 100Mbps downlink on a mobile phone and 50Mbps uplink, and for fixed it should reach 1Gbps for uplink and 600Mbps for uplink, i.e there is no 4G anywhere yet On Mon, Nov 15, 2010 at 2:58 PM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com>wrote:

Pre-4G is LTE or Mobile Wimax but these are usually branded as 4G. These are operational in the capitals of Norway ad Sweden (LTE) and Lithuania (mobile Wimax).
True 4G would be speeds around 1Gbps.
HSUPA is not even pre-4G. It is just another version of UMTS 3G. It is not even branded as 4G. But go ahead - we can even call it 4G+ ;)
4G for Kenya, that is:-)
Now I wonder. Why is Safaricom selling these High Speed modems at the very same time they are saying they are TRIALing 4G, yet they are not availing any 4G modems?
