Secondly I have seen comments from Nokia Insiders that the purchase is for devices only and not the IP. It remains to see if Nokia without the devices is anything more than a shell, future survival depends on how they grow the Network Equipment portion on NSN (which I can confirm is under siege from Huawei/ZTE/Ericsson), and how much they can rake in from patents.

As I always say a seamless ecosystem is what Microsoft needs. Not rocket science. Let manufacturers build phones that run your software the way windows is installed on all manner of tin cans. Create ubiquity of windows and make it the default in mobile the way it is on PC. Supplant Blackberry in the corporate world and the revenue will work for you. 

Let Apple be the pretty ecosystem but if you want to get work done best option is windows Phone + tablet + PC.
