Ok Guys,
I have read this thread like I was witnessing a defense case on a humorous kenyan court. @Simon if you have time use either and walk the talk yourself now that you have received the information.
I really like the thread now that I know there a quite a few guys who know their networks well here, at some time I thot his forum is full of developers we should now really contributed. I got my own mind bogging issues but I shall start a new thread on it later.
Best luck Simon, hope to hear ur view soon.

call me whatever activist you call me. but look at this "cisco 1841 with seck9 capability" extract from packet tracer

does this look like calculus to you?
I beg your pardon.. was that directed at me? If so, then forgive me but I don't remember talking about IPSec and VPN tunnel... I was talking about loading IOS images into a simulated router. And the activist bit.. I think you took it a little too seriously... it was in line with that rat joke. Anyway, sorry for stirring your anger/strong reaction, but I think I thanked all for their input and settled for GNS3. But that doesn't mean Packet Tracer is bad, in fact, I believe it's very good. So I hope we are all a happy lot now.
Enjoy your lunch :)

Hehehe... looks like you are an animal right activist, Francis. you really want me to use your toy gun on my rat. I need a bazooka coz I want to load a K9 advanced security image. I realize that dynamips doesn't support 1800 series, so I obtained an IOS image for a 2691 and a 2600, which I want to try.
Anyway, thanks guys for your input. I appreciate it.
Me.

Yes, it has limitations (like any other software in the world). Well, you load .bin files in dynamips/GNS. ptracer has pre-configured images. In my opinion, "loading IOS bin files to configuring them" amounts to 1% of the simulator's functions.
With packet tracer; you can load a cisco 1841, reload it, cold boot the router, Go shopping to San Francisco and buy an E1 WIC card, remove the faulty card and fix a new one, redistribute your eigrp/ospf routers to another simulator in a different machine ... Simon, this toy needs a real boy.

But doesn't packet tracer have limited functionality? Can it fully simulate a real router, from loading IOS bin files to configuring them? I doubt, but not so sure...
