Hi Joram, Could you give more information on what this MTA will be doing i.e serving an enterprise or ISP, what load is expected any virus/spam filetering required etc. What do you need for integration with POP/IMAP and Webmail (if needed at all) etc. You may want to consider Exim or Postfix against Qmail. Largely because Qmail is no longer being developed but being patched. It however remains stable and functional but will lack in features and ease of integration compare to the others mentioned. As MTA software, it is recommended to use Qmail for external MTA set up. Qmail is an Internet Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) for UNIX-like operating systems. It's a drop-in replacement for the Sendmail system provided with UNIX operating systems. Qmail uses the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) to exchange messages with MTA's on other systems.
