And if you have noticed, if you are using a phone with 3G and its on, you will be charged 8 bob regardless of time or your location. Why dont they tell this information to their customers using 3G? On 9/24/09, Bernard Mwagiru <bmwagiru@gmail.com> wrote:
I thot some1 had to subscribe to this tariff?*212*1# i believe? Aren't there terms and conditions behind the ad in the daily? CCK directed to be notified a month for any tariff change I believe.

My suggestions Alex: a tariff plan should always be published in the media with all charges fully disclosed, and instructions on how to join and exit one, plus how to use it.
The prices should be constant for a reasonable amount of period dictated by inflation and taxation. Users should be adequately compensated and informed well in advance in case of any changes in a tariff plan. Users should therefore not be migrated into or out of a tariff plan without their consent.

Above was before publishing of <http://www.cck.go.ke/current_consultations/> (in this case THE KENYA COMMUNICATIONS (TARIFF) REGULATIONS, 2009). Skunkers ought to send to CCK (or give us your comments for inclusion on ours submission) if you really want to make a lasting change. Otherwise, remain complaining forever thereafter decision are made :-(

The way i see it the supa ongea tariff is designed to retain subscribers for long enough until they come up with a more concrete offer. Now they have people convinced they make a saving so more calls are made and the rate remains at 8sh i suggest they come up with a fixed figure and stop lying to devoted safaricom users. I wonder if they are real market leaders and believe they have superior products why not play it clean and prove to us.

Well, the marketers seem to be having a field day at the expense of the consumers. after its launch, it worked as promised till Friday last week, when it became more theoretical than practical. The tariff is 8 bob from 8 or 9 am to 10 pm where it drops to 7 bob for an hour and then 80 cts. CBS has not send info messages for 3 days, and all this is in a place in ukambani where the number of callers shouldnt be that high. the only other explanation is that their central systems are operating at a> 90% level. Theoretically, it promises you heaven and earth, practically, its a different story

@Alex, The urban folk (poor or otherwise) always have to contend with costs associated with anything urban: 1) Electricity 2) Water 3) Food 4) Transport 5) Communications
If you are urban, expect tariffs on the higher side ... I those who live outside Nairobi...Items 1,2,3 and now 5 are, in most cases, way lower...
