I am not a data analyst, but it seems that my hypothesis is somewhat right. I graphed the engine oil viscosity against fuel usage, and got the nice chart attached. Summary: More people use Shell Helix 15W40 than 5W40, BUT, those who are using 5W40 are consistently getting better fuel economy.
