Well, in that case then you don't want the traditional TDM microwaves used by telcos (kina safcom, airtel etc). Reasons being;
1. The smallest bandwidth will probably be too much for your needs, being at least 2 E1s for the smallest radio, thats about 4Mbps. Doing fractional E1 will not make sense since its still the same unit.
2. As mentioned here earlier, you will have to deal with CCK licenses, spectrum fees, infrastructure (masts and towers if it's remote areas) and probably high installation fees.
So I wouldn't suggest this solution for you now....
First and foremost, apologies for not getting back to ya'll sooner,
been travelling.
@Wash
Yes, i am refering to Communication Service Providers.
I too have heard something to the tune of "Safaricom Microwave". But
unlike other connectivity solutions,unfortunately not aware of
any(one/Org.) currently deploying it hence the inquiry.
But what kind of damage (KES) are we looking at? I assume they
probably sent you a quote?
@John Thanks for the Info, much appreciated. But as you state, its
less of a headache piggy backing on established relationships ergo
Safaricom/CCK.
@Kinuthia To elaborate; I have a VPN running over VSAT on one end and
Wimax on the other. Both with 512Kbps bandwidth. (See: VPN over VSAT
thread on the list)
The IPSec tunnel in place is to facilitate "Remote Desktop Access" via
Win2K8 Server CALs (3 to 5 users at any one time) to accessing an
application running at the VSAT end of the tunnel.
In terms of traffic, its minimal since i have the same running
effortlessly on two Wimax Links (512Kbps Dedicated), the one in
question above and another link at a remote office of the company
without the need for traffic shaping whatsoever.
However, even with traffic shaping and prioritization for the
VSAT/Wimax tunnel. Sluggish response on the remote access terminal.
Hence considering the need for another solution other than a satellite
link which will undoubtedly knock off most of the latency.
I hope that clarifies it, but if not, do ask.
