You seem well informed on these type of car security systems. Couldyou be knowing where I can get the spare key locally. On Fri, Apr 12, 2013 at 2:02 AM, Vincent Wayodi <wayodi@gmail.com> wrote:
As requested, Job..Have a look at this forums below."If the Nissan key is programmed incorrectly, the replacement key will unlock the doors and turn in the ignition, but the car’s ECU (Engine Control Unit) will NOT allow the vehicle to start."
Something else i found online is that All Nissan Cars sold since 1995 are equipped with a factory-fitted immobiliser system linked to a small glass chip embedded in the car key, It is normally "impossible" to bypass, override or remove a Nissan immobiliser and still drive the vehicle. If the correct chip is present, the immo system will allow the Nissan vehicle to start. If the immo system fails to detect a chip the fuel supply to the engine is cut off.On Thu, Apr 11, 2013 at 3:23 PM, Vincent Wayodi <wayodi@gmail.com> wrote:
What’s the Year of manufacture of you car?
Is it the European or Japanese version?
· Getting to the cars computer box is usually a mission, that’s why dealers charge and arm and a leg. It usually involves removing the dashboard to get to the computer, which is under the stereo; they need to get the code number that is written on the side of the “computer box” to code a new key. It’s usually around an hour of labor costs.
· It’s a specialist job and requires your mechanic to connect your car to a computer that will either allow him access to the ECU or not. If its original ECU that came with the car straight from the factory it will say NO, but you will still end up paying for labour costs
· For all the grief that you could possibly get, if it goes wrong, I would do my research thoroughly before I get someone who can reprogram blank keys. You never know, as they may end up making a copy for themselves. Sometimes back I remember reading a post on Skunkwors about some lady who’s husband took their car to some mechanic who fitted some 3rd party Security Tracker. Unknowingly to the man, the mechanic also connected a GSM device to the cars ECU enabling the car to be switched ON or OFF via text. They were later carjacked when the car “conveniently” shut down itself, when they were being tailed by thugs. Now I don’t know if this story is true or not , but I would not leave it to chance.
· Oh and another thing, In the very highly unlikely event of theft of your vehicle. Your Insurance Company may ask you to produce both keys, before they can process your claim
· Average cost for this kind of work these sides is usually around 200 pounds, but only authorized dealers can do it.

You better be very careful with you “only key”, as if you loose it, in addition of the costs of replacing the “Security keys” you will have to get the ECU of you car replaced with a new one as well. Only authorized dealers have access to re-program “blank Keys” with existing security “codes” for your car’s existing ECU. The only other way to go around this would be to replace the ECU on your car but that will cost more. That’s the price for having a key that control doors, windows, alarm, and engine all at the push of a button.
