Haven't you seen that a nobel prize was awarded for some work on figuring out the way ribosomes work=Protein manufacture and they patented that. So I guess if you are living, you owe someone some royalties.. I think I can come up with a 'finance your proteins' schema a la 'finance your [kid's university|car|house]' scheme. Oh! wait, I'll patent that too
